How to Create Desktop Shortcuts to Specific Chrome Profiles

chrome 1 How to Create Desktop Shortcuts to Specific Chrome ProfilesPreviously we have seen how we can create multiple profiles on Chrome for different users and switch between them using Chrome title bar or hotkeys. Now the thing was, there was no way to open a profile directly and one had to open the default profile and then switch to personal one.
Today I will show you how you can create a new profile using Chrome desktop shortcut and use it to open the particular profile instead of switching from default every time you run Chrome.

Creating Chrome Profile Desktop Shortcut

To create custom shortcut for an individual profile, first we will have to create normal desktop shortcut. If you already have a spare Chrome desktop shortcut, you can skip the step. To create one, right-click on desktop and select New—>Shortcut to open the shortcut creation wizard. .

In the shortcut creation wizard, give C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe as the path and create a new Chrome desktop shortcut. Don’t forget to replace the username with your Windows profile name.

Having done that, right-click on the new shortcut and select Properties. In the properties window edit the target field and after chrome.exe give a space and paste the text –profile-directory=”Default”.This will open the default Chrome profile. Now if you want to create a new profile and open it using the particular desktop shortcut directly, change the Default in the above path with Profile 1 and apply the settings.

Now when you click on the particular shortcut, it will create a new Chrome account and get associated to it. In future, whenever you run chrome using this shortcut, it will open the associated profile automatically. Repeat the steps to create as many new profiles as you wish to.

Conclusion

One can create Chrome shortcuts using browser itself, but this method makes sure that the profile shortcut is created on desktop for ease of accessibility. Using this method you will no longer need to switch profile after launching Chrome and you will be able to launch the specific profile directly.
